Tatting Picot Gauge Sets


Three new tatting picot gauge sets were listed for sale in our Etsy shop today.  These unique sets of brass picot gauges are a Grizzly Mountain Arts original design. The entire set telescopes inside each other and then slides neatly into the Oregon myrtlewood gauge case. The four size increments are: 1/4, 3/16, 1/8 and 1/16. Brass Picot Gauge Set with Case


Dave has crafted this picot gauge set from round brass tubing. The sizes are 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, and ¼ inches. The set also includes a scribed 2 inch flat brass ruler. The gauges slide inside each other and fit nicely inside the 3 ½ inch Oregon myrtlewood burl case. Burl wood has unique patterns made by nature and cannot be duplicated. Each piece of burl is one of a kind.

Walnut Top and Bottom Whorl Drop Spindle Set


A beautiful dark Walnut was chosen for this unique three spindle set. Each of the three spindles features lovely carved checkering on the whorl, brass bumpers and brass hooks. The sizes of each spindle are as follows:

Native American Design Low Whorl Drop Spindle


Dave is adding a new design to his spindle line and this one is a real beauty! If you've taken a look at some of our past work, you've seen that pine needle basket making is another of Dave's passions.

On this
new spindle, he's created a 1 7/8 inch diameter Poplar low whorl that looks like a pine needle basket. Using pyrography, he has adorned it with a Native American pattern.

This unique 11 3/4 long spindle, also features a brass hook, Spalted Birch shaft and brass bumper. The weight of this low whorl drop spindle is 1.6 ounces. If you'd like to view more photos, please visit our Etsy shop.

Brass Picot Gauge Set with Case for Lace Making


Dave has handcrafted this lace making picot gauge set from brass and the case is Holy Land olive wood. The beautiful case measures about 3 ¼ inches long. The brass gauges are 1/16, 1/8, 3/16 and ¼ inch round tubes that all slide together to fit neatly in the case. He has also added a 2 inch picot gauge ruler that also fits in the case with the tube gauges. This unique picot gauge set is currently up for auction on Ebay.

Poplar and Rosewood French Spool Knitter


Dave has handcrafted this four brass pin spool knitter out of Poplar and dark Rosewood. He has burn etched the rose design on both sides. This spool knitter is 3 3/4 inches long and the companion 5 1/2 inch needle/loop lifter is made from the same materials. An additional photo can be found at the Ebay auction listing.

Handcrafted Oak Leaf with Acorn French Knitting Spool


Dave has handcrafted this spool knitter using cedar and walnut.  He has burn etched a oak leaf/acorn design around it. The spool knitter is approx 4 ¼ inchs overall in length and brass was used for the knitting pins so they will not rust. Dave has hand turned the accompanying knitting needle from teak wood. Both the knitter and needle have a hand rubbed bees wax finish. The knitter has been initialed and dated by Dave.

Handmade Walnut and Ivory Spinners 1/8 in Diz Set


Dave hand made this 1/8 inch orifice diz and threading hook set out of walnut and ancient mammoth ivory. The diz is a 2 3/8 x 2 inch walnut oval with a center insert of smooth ivory, so no fiber snags on the wood grain or edges. The orifice threading hook is brass with a walnut handle, ivory and ebony accent rings. Dave has also burn etched the Victorian design on the diz by hand. This piece has been initialed and dated by Dave, the maker.

Grape and Leaf Motif Purpleheart Tatting Shuttle


Dave made this 2 ¼ inch post shuttle out of Purpleheart wood. It has been inlayed with a brass grape and leaf motif on one side. Please note that one end has a tiny gap, but the other is closed. This piece has been initialed and dated by Dave, the maker.

Ivory and Walnut Small Top Whorl Spindle

Dave really enjoys making these small fancy drop spindles. This one is walnut accented with padauk wood and ancient mammoth ivory. You can really see the beautiful grain in the ivory on the whorl. This piece has been initialed and dated by Dave, the maker, on whorl bottom.

Fossil Ivory Rings

Dave has been busy turning some beautiful pieces of fossil ivory! We had purchased some vintage raw brass adjustable rings a while back, and knew what we wanted to use them for--we just had to find the right pieces of ivory.
